Frequently Asked Questions
Need help or clarification? Here are some Frequently Asked Questions about our business. If you can’t find your answer or would like more information about a topic, feel free to get in touch with us through email or give us a call!
Will I be able to understand your IT advice/support?
Absolutely. Our policy for IT support both remote and on-site is to communicate in plain English, not confusing technical jargon. We understand that our clients are just trying to find the best options for their business IT, and we want to help by being as clear, honest, and understandable as possible.
What are Managed Services?
A Managed IT Service is when a client engages a third party provider to become their IT Department. That outside company can then proactively manage, maintain, and secure your IT assets.
Managed Services benefit you by protecting your network and data, providing specialist experience, reducing unexpected costs, and expert recommendations tailored to your business and budget. Find out more about Managed Services here.
Can you liaise with my preferred provider?
We will always liaise with your preferred provider, and can often recommend reliable third party providers for other services that you may need.
Do you install powerpoints or wall cabling?
We are not electricians, so we don’t install powerpoints or wall cabling. However, we can often recommend a reliable third-party provider for you from our extensive industry experience.
Do you sell or install security cameras?
No, we are not security system installers, so we don’t provide that service. However, we can often recommend reliable third-party providers, and liaise with your provider to ensure that your security systems are integrated with your IT network where this is a feature of the system.
Is there a fee for quotes or consultations?
Consultations, appointments and chats are all free. Our policy is no cost, no obligation – meaning that you can schedule a no-cost chat or consultation any time without the obligation to engage our services.
We will always be upfront and transparent about which services we charge for and the costs. If you’re ever unsure, just ask us! We’re more than happy to reassure you.
What happens when I contact you?
When you call the office, you will be answered by one of our dedicated Customer Care team and connected to one of the technicians. No need to worry about awkward calls and explanations: at Rampant, every staff member interacting with you has a background in IT- even the receptionist!
You can go to our contact page here and talk to us via phone or email, or set up an appointment to come in or have us visit you.
A technician will visit your office, assess your current systems, and then discuss short, medium and long term goals and your vision for the future.
We will then work out a plan to get you from where you currently are, to where you want to be, considering your budgets, productivity and time requirements.
Do you provide Internet Services?
No, we are not an Internet Service Provider (ISP) but we can recommend reliable third party providers for other services that you may need, and liaise with your preferred provider to address any related issues you may be having.
Do you repair/sell office phones or smartphones?
No, we don’t- however, we can assist you to set up BYOD secure to your network and access office technology (e.g receiving emails on your phone).
Do you design websites?
Web design is not one of our services. However, we can assist with website security certificates (SSL certificates), domain names and other technical components related to websites.
Rampant Technology has vast experience in the configuration, maintenance and repair of business networks ranging from 2 user operations up to 100+ user systems spanning multiple locations.
Make sure you are getting what you pay for with your office network- contact us for any questions you may have about your network and computer system.
New Office setups
Office relocations
Multi-linked offices (Wide Area Networks)
Remote Desktop Services
Small Business Servers
LAN (local Area Networks)
LAN’s are the typical office network setup. All workstations are connected to a central server(s) for file and printer sharing etc. These networks are limited to a single geographical area and don’t require the use of the internet to link workstations together.
WAN (Wide Area Networks)
WAN’s cover large geographical areas and are used for linking LAN’s together. They are privately owned networks that use the internet as a medium for joining all their networks together. Meaning multiple networks spread nationally or globally can function as a single network.
RDP (Remote Desktop Services)
This is a technology that allows users to access applications and other resources on their network from a remote location. Using a Virtual Private Network (VPN) and depending upon internet speed, the user experience is like physically sitting inside your office. This kind of technology is rapidly becoming popular for people who need access to their company data while away from the office.
Cloud and Infrastructure
Become instantly scalable in the cloud vs being compelled to retain on-premises infrastructure.
Do you have a disaster recovery plan for your data?
Make your data secure with a company that will help protect what’s important to your business.
Safeguard from fire and disaster
Protect against theft
Be prepared for hardware failure
Survive data corruption
Avoid unnecessary downtime
Any data that is of importance to you should be protected from loss or damage. Choosing the right backup solution is dependent on 4 main factors:
Capacity
The backup media or storage facility must be large enough to store all your critical data – now and into the future. We deal with onsite, offsite, and cloud backup systems.
Automation
Having your backup system scheduled to start / stop / send reports automatically means they can run after hours and run unattended, saving time and money. Our design process also facilitates setting up your new system incrementally.
Price
A more sophisticated backup system often comes with an increased price tag.
Speed
Most data is typically in use during business hours, meaning an after-hours backup is usually required. Depending on the amount of data being backed up, an appropriate system must be used to ensure the backup process completes before the next business day. Other important factors include the reliability of your internet connection.
Location
The location of your backup data is vital. External hard drives are ultimately susceptible to damage or failure, and cloud backups require safeguards against data theft, encryption and loss of access. Have questions or concerns about the safety of your data? We have answers.
USB Portable Hard Drives
These devices are the ideal choice for reliable off-site backups. For the large majority of small businesses, USB hard drives is what Rampant Technology recommends.
Benefits include:
- Plug and play feature (can be used on any PC)
- Inexpensive
- High capacity
- Zero maintenance
- High speed backup
- High speed restore
R.A.I.D (Redundant Array of Inexpensive Devices)
RAIDs are a collection of hard disk drives logically joined together, creating a single drive that communicates with MS-Windows. The primary function of this system is to protect you from hard disk failure. If a disk in the array fails, the system continues to run and the failed unit is physically replaced with zero data loss. There are a range of different RAID designs, with different advantages and disadvantages. The easiest one to understand is the mirror RAID known in the tech world as RAID1.
All servers housing data should have this RAID at a minimum.

Remote Support
What if you could enjoy real time assistance on your PC, and faster computer support? The solution is called ROSS.
ROSS (Rampant Office Support System) monitors your systems in real time, checking for Windows updates and fixing known issues before they happen, as well as many other features. It also contains software that allows our support team to access your PC via the Internet from our office – as if we were sitting at your desk. We can assist you with support questions, upgrades, training and general troubleshooting. We value your peace of mind, so we’ve also made sure that this support solution can only be initiated by you.
Having a technician view your computer screen, watch your process, and take control while you watch means that you have someone attending to your needs when you need them.
How does it work?
Once configured, it appears as Tray icon (near the clock). This gives us access to your PC. It’s that easy!
You will know when it is operational because a banner will appear across the top of your screen telling you which Technician is helping you.
You will need:
- some configuration work performed on your PC
- internet connection on the same computer that you require remote support.
Please Note: Remote Support is a service offered to Rampant Technology Service Agreement clients.
Providing this type of assistance to casual clients is offered at Rampant Technology’s discretion with upfront payment required.
What if I can’t get a fast internet connection at my premises?
You should contact your telecommunications provider and/or lobby your local member of parliament. Broadband is considered an essential service for businesses, and Telstra in particular has committed to the provision of this service in regional areas.
The right parts for the right price.
